Assets you import are embedded in the XD document. If you edit the original image in a program like Photoshop, it won’t change in your XD document. Also, JPEG images you place—but not any other file types—are placed at half of their original size.

Import assets using the Import command

  • Choose File > Import (MacOS) or click the menu in the upper-left corner and choose Import (Windows).

Transforming assets

  • Select an image and, in the Property Inspector on the right, you will see transformation options. If the Lock Aspect option is set (it is set by default for images), then you can resize an image while maintaining the proportions without pressing the Shift key.
  • Drag a corner of the placed image to resize it.
  • Drag a corner widget in the corner of a selected image to change the corner radius for all corners.

Tip: To round each corner independently, select the Different Radius For Each Corner option in the Property Inspector and change each corner value.

Placing SVG graphics

SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) are vector or drawn graphics files that look great at any size. SVG graphics you paste or import are editable in XD.

  • Place SVG by choosing File > Import (MacOS) or click the menu in the upper-left corner and choose Import (Windows), pasting SVG content from another app, or dragging an SVG file from your desktop into XD.
  • To resize the SVG, press the Shift key and drag a corner. When scaling is complete, release the mouse and then the key.
